Light Vehicle Maintenance

This course is designed to give an insight into vehicle maintenance and offers progression routes onto the next level for suitable candidate.

Units to be covered:

  • Health, safety and good housekeeping
  • Support for job roles
  • Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices
  • Routine vehicle maintenance
  • Light vehicle engine mechanical, lubrication and cooling system units and components
  • Light vehicle fuel, ignition, air and exhaust system units
  • Engine units
  • Electrical units
  • Chassis units
  • Transmission and driveline units.

There are several methods of assessment including practical assessments, tests and projects.

On completion of this course you can progress on to an apprenticeship.

Level 2 – 4 x GCSE grade D or level 3 (including English and Maths)

The course is free to 16 - 18 year olds.


Figures from the Employment Bureau indicate that employment in the motor vehicle sector can bring earnings of £26,000 plus.
