This programme is an opportunity for you gain focussed work experience to enable progress onto an Apprenticeship or paid work within your chosen Health, Social Care or Children’s setting.

At the end of this programme you have developed your employability skills and spent time developing your practical skills and knowledge with an employer for you to progress with confidence into your paid work.

This Traineeship provides you with a springboard to employment and will enable you to develop your understanding of the types of services and job roles that are available within the health, social care and children’s workforce.  It will provide an introduction to the values, knowledge and skills that are required to enable workers to work safely and effectively in their settings. In additional to this you will work towards your English and Maths Functional Skills.

Before your work experience placement, you will have completed your Criminal Records Service Check and have your DBS Disclosure so that you are ready to progress onto your next step without delay.

The college will support you with the funding for this.

You will study in our new high specification building at The College. Experienced health, social care and childcare tutors and assessors to support your learning and development. Wide range of employers and vacancies across Oldham and our surrounding areas. Our Job Shop Team will support your transition from your Traineeship to your Apprenticeship

Study Programme

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
