Our Enterprise Academy at Oldham College is a unique and highly innovative and exciting course. A level 3 programme that has been designed to enable learners to develop and run a fully functioning micro-business that can provide a real investment grant of up to £3,000 for your business idea.

In addition, learners will learn about the Social Enterprise sector and work in teams to compete against other learners as part of the Young Enterprise Foundation programme. You will spend time working with renowned institutions in the area on events and marketing activities providing you with real practical experience in business and enterprise.

You will be encouraged to work with a business mentor and also to become a mentor in schools for future learners as you share your experience allowing you to build skills in confidence and presentation and real transferable business skills that will set you up for either further study at a higher level or the world of work.

Learners successfully completing the course will achieve a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Enterprise & Entrepreneurship which is equivalent to three A Levels.

From this course, students will gain UCAS points to progress onto university onto courses including but not limited to, Business Management, Human Resources Management and Marketing. However, if University is not your preferred destination the course will build upon your employability and business acumen giving you a head start as you enter the workplace.

You'll also gain experience on the following:

•           Real life business challenges – GM Enterprise Challenge – Young Enterprise Challenge
•           Master classes, workshops, micro business surgeries and networking events
•           Receive coaching from real business owners
•           Undertake a personal and professional development programme designed to guide you and support your business aspirations

Your work will be assessed in a variety of formats, including marked case studies and reports. Externally marked examinations and observed presentations and business related activities and recorded professional discussions

Learners will ideally spend part of their course on a placement in a highly respected company, which is in a business area to suit their needs. We will work with each learner to understand what skills you are looking to develop and what kind of area you are interested in working. It could be that you want to gain experience of working in the sector in which your business is running in. If so we will provide support and guidance to ensure your work placement is relevant and will help to develop key skills

Upon completion of the course, learners can run their own business venture, progress into employment or undertake university level study. 

Our course allows you to progress to a number of courses at University Campus Oldham (UCO)
Level 3 – 4 x GCSE grades A-C or level 4-9 ( including English and Maths)

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
