Art & Design

The course will:

  • Build your skills in art & design ready for your next step to level 3 or apprenticeship.
  • Explore the history of art and design
  • Provide experience of working with external clients
  • Explore roles in the industry.
  • During the course you will complete units from the University of Arts London course developing visual language, research skills, drawing and materials and processes your ability to:

    • Communicate creatively through digital and manual techniques
    • Focus on projecting artistic and commercial themes for your art work
    • Learn dynamic image making skills using 3D and 2D software and practical skills in our workshops.
    • Explore Adobe software
    • Create designs and art work for clients
    • Complete a final major project working independently and exhibit.
  • We assess regularly with both informal/formal, formative and summative portfolio assessments. We provide students with tutor reviews which are usually three weeks prior to their final assessments.

    We also embed self, peer and tutor assessment in almost every session, whether this is in verbal or written form. Learners have regular tutorials where their assessment grades are checked. Other areas of study such as English and Maths will involve examinations.

We have links with businesses in the region who welcome student collaborations, and work placements.

  • Work based opportunities (apprenticeships/ traineeships)

19+ learners may have the opportunity to apply for UCO FdA’s in Graphic Design and Creative Media.

Level 2 – 4 x GCSE grade D or level 3 (including English and Maths)

Applicants must have the required GCSE grades in English, maths and an art based subject.
