This course particularly aimed at learners with a passion for football, wanting to enter employment in the sports and active leisure sector as sports coaches, instructors and leaders. It is ideal for those wishing to progress into higher education to study sports related degrees such as coaching, sports development and sports science. Alongside the academic aspect of the course, you will also have access to quality coaching to enhance your football skills and playing ability.

The level 3 Extended Diploma consists of different topics. These include:

Unit 1: Anatomy & Physiology

Unit 2 Fitness Training and Programming for health, Sports and Well Being.

Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry

Unit 4: Sports Leadership

Unit 7: Practical Sports Performance

Unit 8: Coaching for Performance

Unit 9: Research Methods in Sports

Unit 19: Development and Provision od Sports and Physical Activity

Unit 22: Investigating Business in Sport and Active Leisure Industry.

Unit 23: Skills Acquisition in Sports.

The course is assessed through a wide variety of assessment methods. Four units will be externally assessed, including one written exam and three task based assessments, which will be set and marked by Pearsons Edexcel, the examination awarding body. The remaining units are all internally assessed using a broad range of assessment methods such as written reports, posters, practical coaching, projects, presentations and work experience. Each individual unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) or Distinction (D).
As part of the course you will be required to complete work experience in a variety of sports settings. Learning through participation in a wide range of sporting roles including organising sports events, refereeing and officiating, designing fitness programmes and coaching.
The BTEC qualification in sports have been developed to meet employment opportunities in the sports and active leisure sector. Itb allows full time learners the opportunity to enter employment in this sector or progress to higher education. Progression onto higher education in sports related degrees is an extremely common pathway for BTEC learners.
