Faculty of

Skills & Employability

Studying at college can be challenging or difficult for some people for many reasons. Here at Oldham College we aim to find a course and a place for everyone by supporting your various needs.

The Faculty of Skills & Employability is home to a small number of teams including a specialist team dedicated to providing maths and English e.g. GCSEs and functional skills, to students across all faculties. Staff also provide help and support to those who do not have English as their first language by providing ESOL courses and helping students build up their confidence.

In addition the faculty helps those who struggle with their studies, don’t feel ready to take on a full time vocational course in any subject, have personal or social difficulties, have no idea what to do or have not been in education, employment or training for some time.
The teams also help students by developing a personalised programme of study for individuals that will really build up their English and maths skills. This programme will also help students develop social and life skills, build up their confidence and achieve personalised targets. This support will also enable students to progress on to a vocational course within the college or put them on the path to a traineeship, apprenticeship or employment.

Based within the Faculty of Skills & Employability is our Additional Learning Support Team (ALS) who are trained and experienced in supporting people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, as well as working with other professionals to provide the most effective support.
