Art and Design Students Compete for Skills Title

Art and Design students from across Greater Manchester will take part in the Greater Manchester Colleges Group (GMCG) Skills Competition at Oldham College on the 11 May. The competition will take the theme of ‘Home’ and connect to current homeless issues in Manchester including protection, shelter and entrapment.

5 students from each of the 10 colleges will design and present their idea to a team of judges using any media they wish and facilities available on the day. These can include small scale models, digital media, drawing and written work. Participating students should take into consideration audience, workshop ideas, links to current affairs and touring options. The competition aims to build skills in communication, creative thinking, presentation, professional behaviour and working to a deadline.

Jo Manship, Head of Digital and Creative said “The Skills competition is a great experience for students to work creatively in teams to a specific brief. It enhances the development of world class skills which underpin economic competitiveness for Greater Manchester. “

The GMCG is a partnership of 10 Further Education colleges across Greater Manchester, the group works together to open up opportunities and distribute its benefits across local communities.
