Posted on: 07 March 2017

Former Premier League footballer, Stephen Morgan has taken up his new role as Oldham College Football Academy Coach. The Coventry City star played professional football for 16 years before training as a coach. His 11 years’ experience as a qualified coach means that he brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.

The college is currently top of the Men’s Football League 2 where they play against 6 other college teams. They aim to recruit enough players to raise a second team next year.

The programme delivers professional standard coaching alongside sport programmes. Training includes individual fitness plans, dietary advice and strength and conditioning. Learners train twice a week and play a match weekly.

Stephen believes that “Playing sport but especially football, builds team work and leadership skills. It strengthens learner discipline and offers the opportunity for students to progress and fulfil their dreams.”

Team Captain, Aaron Morgan said “I’ve learnt so much working with Stephen already. He keeps us on our toes while training and the new development skills we work on help with our wider studies too.”
