ESOL LEARNERS GO ABOVE AND BEYOND

Oldham College is proud of two of our ESOL learners who recently went above and beyond to help an elderly lady who had suffered a fall.

The 88-year-old resident recently fell outside our Campus Central reception on Middleton Road – but help was at hand.

Four people stand in a row; the two people in the middle each hold a bouquet of flowers and blue certificate.

Khadiza Lima and Nipa Parvin both helped to clean the lady up and then made sure that she reached her destination by ordering and paying for a taxi.

The lady has since been in touch personally with Oldham College to thank Khadiza and Nipa “from the bottom of my heart”.

Nerissa Roberts, Head of Faculty for ESOL, and Saba Bukhari, ESOL Programme Leader, have now presented Khadiza and Nipa with a certificate and gift to thank them for their act of kindness.

Nerissa said: “Our students are not just attending Oldham College to learn a subject or skills – as Khadiza and Nipa showed, they are also encouraged to learn about British Values and develop as good citizens who will be an asset to our community. We are very proud of them both.”
