What will I study?

City in the Community BTEC Level 2 First Award in Sport (Full Time)

This course provides students with the appropriate Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours appropriate for the Industry, preparing learners to enter the workplace. Level 2 Sport covers a range of units including: Fitness for Sport and Exercise (exam), Practical Performance in Sport, Application of Principles of Personal Training and Leading Sports Activities. As part of this Vocational Qualification students will experience more of a balanced curriculum with assessment ranging from exams, written assignments, practical demonstrations and presentations. Students will have the chance to gain additional qualifications such as Level 2 Sports Leaders Award and Basic First Aid Certificate which will support them in the sports industry. Completion of this course will allow students to progress naturally onto a Level 3 qualification.  Students will also need to undertake and complete 35 hours work experience over the course of the year.

In addition, students will be expected to attend training sessions and play in the City in the Community BTEC league as well as national competitions. Students will receive a verity of volunteering opportunities including City in the Community events such as: disability sports and school sports. To align with industry standards students will be expected to purchase a sport kit.

City in the Community BTEC Level 3 Extended National Diploma in Sport (Full Time) 2 Years

This Level 3 course is a two-year qualification which provides students with the advanced knowledge, skills and behaviours appropriate for the Industry and/or progression to Higher Education. Level 3 Sport covers a range of units including: Anatomy and Physiology (exam), Coaching for Performance, Skills Acquisition in Sport and Professional Development in the Sports Industry. As part of this Vocational Qualification students will experience a balance curriculum with assessments ranging from exams, written assessment, practical demonstration and presentations. Students will have the chance to gain additional qualifications such as Level 1 FA qualification and Level 1 Officiating. You will also need to undertake and complete 35 hours work experience over the course of the 2 years.

How will I be assessed?

Level 2 Sport 

The Level 2 course will be assessed via written work, practical projects and presentations; one unit will be assessed via external exam.

BTEC Football Education Programme - Manchester City (City in the Community) Level 2 

The Level 2 course will be assessed via written work, practical projects and presentations; one unit will be assessed via external exam.

Level 3 Sport 

The Level 3 course will be assessed via exams, written reports, posters, practical projects, projects, presentations and work experience.

BTEC Football Education Programme - Manchester City (City in the Community) Level 3 

All units are internally assessed via exams, written reports, posters, practicals, projects, presentations and work experience. Each unit is graded Pass (P), Merit (M) or Distinction (D).

What will this lead to?

This course particularly suits those wanting to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector as coaches, instructors and leaders and who also have a real passion for football.

It is also ideal for those wishing to progress to higher education to study a sport related degree such as coaching, sports development and sports science.

This course is linked to the Manchester City Community Football Coaching degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. Alongside the academic aspect of the course, you will also have access to quality coaching to enhance your football skills and playing ability.

4 GCSEs at grade 3 or Vocational Level 1 in relevant subject area.

*GCSE Grade 4 or above in Maths is required for the courses below:

Full time Level 3 Course

5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 including English or Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English or Maths will be accepted).

OR

Vocational Level 2 plus Grade 4-9 GCSE English or Maths (Functional Skills Level 2 English or Maths will be accepted).

*A Vocational Level 2 is required for the following courses:

4 GCSE Grade 3 including English and Math's (or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Math's)

* Health T Levels require GCSE Grade 4 in Science.

Cost

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.

  • If you're aged 19 or over, you may be eligible for funding towards your course fees. It will depend on your personal circumstances and will be discussed at enrolment. You will be asked to bring documentation with you when you are invited to enrol.
  • If you are aged 19 and over and study Maths or English and do not already hold a C grade/4 or higher in the subject that you are studying, you will get the course for free.
