Oldham College has teamed up with Royton Linear Park for an exciting project, that will see our learners making a real difference to the local community
Friends of Royton Linear Park Group is a local group which is working to transform this strip of green space which runs from the top of Edge Lane in the town up to Higginshaw.
Their stated aim is “protect, conserve and enhance it as a place of freedom, recreation and enjoyment for all”.
As part of the group’s latest plans, learners from across the college are gaining valuable skills and experience from getting involved in this process.
Level 3 Art and Design learners have been tasked with designing lettering that will be used to decorate an iron tunnel at the park’s entrance.
Shirley and Amanda, two community leaders from Friends of Royton Linear Park, visited Oldham College to judge the lettering with Simon Jordan, Principal.
Shirley, Amanda and Simon selected their favourite entries, which will next be showcased in the tunnel’s ‘Welcome to Royton Linear Park’ signage.
In addition, Shirley and Amanda met with Level 3 Marketing and Level 3 Hardware and Networking learners, who shared their ideas about how to publicise the park and highlight it amongst the local community.
Skills and Employability learners have also contributed to the project.
Ray Gibson, Student Enrichment Manager, said:
“This is truly an incredible project, bringing together the entire College community. It’s rewarding to know that the residents of Linear Park will enjoy the benefits for years to come.”
We’ll provide further updates showing our involvement in the project at a later date!
