Anticipation is mounting with less than one month to go until Oldham College proudly hosts WorldSkills UK finals competitions right here on campus.
For the first time ever, we will be staging four national finals – in Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Horticulture (Foundation) and Landscaping, from 14-16 November.
The 2023 finalists will be competing at nine venues across Greater Manchester that week, including colleges, independent training providers and universities.
442 contenders from across the UK have made it through from more than 6,000 entries – and they represent the very best of upcoming industry talent.
WorldSkills UK 2023 concludes on 17th November, with an awards ceremony at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
Hosting these prestigious events is a significant undertaking for Oldham College.
Jess Criswell, Vice Principal for Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, said: “It’s a real honour for us to be hosting WorldSkills UK finals and we intend to make it a memorable experience for everyone.
“This is the next exciting stage in a WorldSkills UK journey that has seen us embedding their approach and learning across our curriculum over the past three years as part of their Centre of Excellence.
“That has been of huge benefit to both staff and learners and – after the boost of winning our first gold medals last year – we were delighted to see a record 190 students registering to take part this year.
“There are 25 finalists competing from across Greater Manchester in these national finals, and six of these – almost a quarter – are from Oldham College.
“This is a big step in our work to boost learners’ skills, showcase significant events and demonstrate why this is the best place for learners to get the skills that they need to succeed in the local economy.”
