Lydia’s T Level helped her to secure a place at university. She is now pursuing her career goal of becoming a primary school teacher
Lydia is currently a trainee primary school teacher at Edge Hill University: in her second year, she is currently in full time placement in a Year 4 class until January.
“Throughout the T Level I learned many things that have prepared me for university, such as safeguarding and learning theories, while being on placement taught me behaviour management, how a school runs and the teaching of phonics.”
She initially chose a T Level as she knew she wanted to go into teaching but didn’t want to study A Levels.
“The highlights of my T Level were taking part in fun activities within college, being on placement and establishing connections with the wonderful teachers.
“I stayed at the same school-based placement for the two years. I gained experience within Reception and the nursery: building relationships with the staff and children, having the opportunity to teach small groups and taking part in school trips, whole school assemblies and after school clubs.”
Lydia also enjoyed building relationships with her peers: “As the T Level was newly introduced, my class was a smaller group – but by the end of the course, the 10 of us were fully comfortable and fond of each other, which made participating and presenting in front of each other much easier. I am also incredibly thankful to our tutors, who delivered the course so well.”
Looking to the future, Lydia says: “After my degree, I am hoping to get a job as a class teacher and start my Early Career Teacher (ECT) years! Alternatively, I may spend a year as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), to continue to build my confidence.”
