What will I learn on my apprenticeship?

  • Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Business Administration. Duration: 13 months
  • Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration. Duration: 15 - 18 months
  • Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship Standard Customer Service Practitioner. Duration: 13 months
  • Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Standard Team Leader/Supervisor. Duration: 24 months
  • Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship Operations Manager. Duration: 24 months

These qualifications build foundations of administrative/customer service and management practices for apprentices. Apprentices will gain skills and knowledge in a variety of administrative/management duties. At all levels apprentices will undertake a variety of units within the qualification some theory based however the majority will be competency based.

At Level 2 units include: communication in a business environment, principals of providing administrative services, understanding employer organisations and developing working relationships with colleague to name a few.

At Level 3 units include: manage personal and professional development, principals of business, principals of administration, principles of business communication and information managing and delivering presentations to name a few.

Level 3 reflects the skills and knowledge required of those in an administrative role with accountability.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however an initial assessment will take place to ensure the apprentice is capable of reaching the required standards.

At Level 5, apprentices will be expected to create and deliver operational plans, manage projects, lead and manage teams, manage change, demonstrate financial and resource management, and coaching and mentoring.

At this level, entry requirements are: occupational (workplace) competence and a minimum of GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in maths and English.

How will I be assessed?

These qualifications are delivered both on and off the job. Apprentices spend four days per week in the workplace and one day per week at College.

At both levels apprentices will be assessed throughout the apprenticeship in the workplace by a variety of methods, including observation, professional discussion, reflective accounts, product evidence and questions and answers.

At College, apprentices will be taught theory which is then tested via a number of online exams. At Levels 2 and 3 there are three mandatory exams to be passed. These exams are multiple choice and cover topics of communication, business operations and administrative practices.

At Level 5, apprenticeship delivery is on and off the job with four days in the workplace and one day per week in College.

Management theory/knowledge will be delivered in the classroom which will then be tested via exam board assignments. In the workplace, assessment will be completed throughout the course by an industry specialist - with current, up-to-date knowledge - through a variety of professional discussions, product evidence, assignments and reflective accounts.

What will my apprenticeship lead to?

Apprentices will gain a range of skills, which will help them to build a career path.

Completion of the Level 2 course can lead to jobs including:

  • Data entry clerk
  • Office junior
  • Administration assistant
  • Receptionist
  • Customer Services adviser.

Completion of the Level 3 course can lead to jobs including:

  • Administration officer/executive
  • Administration team leader/office supervisor
  • Personal assistant
  • Secretary
  • Team Leader.

Completion of Level 5 apprenticeship can lead to promotion within your organisation/industry, or new job opportunities as:

  • Department manager
  • Divisional manager
  • Operations manager
  • Regional manager
  • Area Manager.

Cost of my apprenticeship

Contribution Rules          

  • 16-18 Where the employer has under 50 employees and they are not a levy paying employer the learner is fully funded by the government, this rule also applies to 19-24 year old who are Care Leavers or in possession of an Educational Healthcare Plan
  • 16-18 Where the employer has 50 or more employees and they are not a levy payer there will be a 5% charge with the government paying the remaining 95%. The 5% contribution will be invoiced as per the table above.
  • 16-18 Where the employer is a levy payer, 100% of the funding will be claimed from their digital account on a monthly basis where the payments are scheduled according to the length of the learner's programme
  • 19+ All employers that are not a levy payers there will be a 5% charge with the government paying the remaining 95%. The 5% contribution will be invoiced as per the table above.
  • 19+ Where the employer is a levy payer, 100% of the funding will be claimed from their digital account on a monthly basis where the payments are scheduled according to the length of the learner's programme

Incentives

  • 16-18 The employer will receive £1,000 incentive, 50% at 90 days following enrolment and 50% at 365 days following enrolment assuming the student is still employed and active on the Apprenticeship. The employer will need to invoice the college for this at that time and confirm their eligibility to make the claims at that point. This applies to Apprenticeship Frameworks only and not new Standards.
  • 19-24 Where an employer has an Apprentice under the age of 25 where their earnings are below £43,000 per year the employer does not have to pay National Insurance Contributions (NIC's). Correct at the time of publication, check the HMRC section on gov.uk website
