Music is a large industry, especially in the UK. Musicians play a huge part in this as the industry continues to grow each year.

Many routes and jobs are available and during your time on the courses - you will complete many activities and workshops that will help you develop and build on your skills to find work within the industry in a field of your choice.

We will help you identify a specific career in the creative industry that you might wish to progress to such as performer, songwriter, producer, engineer and more.

UAL Level 1 Diploma in Music, Performing and Production Arts

UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production

Level 1 and 2 courses are designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further study in music performance and/or production. 

Level 1 is made up of 6 units and Level 2 is made up of 8 units. All units relate to the music performance and production sector and will provide you with a wide variety of skills and knowledge in music composition, listening skills, the process of rehearsal, technology and delivery of a music performance and production collaborative activity. 

You will spend time creating music using industry standard hardware and software. You will watch demonstrations before working through current and relevant briefs to build your own portfolio of work. Music theory is a key element of the course - you will need to understand this in order to progress onto Level 3, apply to university or work in the music industry.

You will rehearse songs, either covers or your own original material, arrange, produce and participate in live performances, showcases and external events. You will build confidence and learn how to use musical equipment, set up speakers and mixing desks and express yourself as an artist.

You will work and record in our industry-standard recording studio, providing you with the skills and knowledge in setting up recording sessions, mix and master your own recordings and work with others in your group to produce your own EP. 

You will also develop personal and professional characteristics needed for a career in the music industry. 

UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production

Level 3 is made up of 13 units and is designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to degree level study and employment in the music performance and production sector.

This course will give you the opportunity to explore and extend your interests in music performance and/or production, through an immersive learning experience. You will watch demonstrations before working through current and relevant briefs to build your own portfolio of work.

In your music performance classes, you can work towards writing and recording your own music. This will give you a huge opportunity to develop your own style and sound as a musician, as developing yourself as an artist is paramount for you to become successful.

You will spend many hours rehearsing material, preparing and planning for shows and recording sessions, and showcasing your material to others to receive professional feedback on how to continue developing and growing as a musician and songwriter. You will research various fields within the music industry and do case studies on job roles to see which you might want to set your goals on once you finish your studies.

In your music technology classes, you will learn how to use all the most technical and riveting industry standard recording and live music equipment. You will have full access to our state of the art recording studios and production suites, along with the prospect to work directly with other music students or external musicians in these spaces.

As part of your qualification, you will receive the opportunity to undertake real industry work experience with affiliated professionals in some of the best venues and studios in the country. This is all part of our employability promise to help you take the next step into employment or university after completing this jam-packed Level 3 qualification.

You will gain lots of work experience - not just our own studios and putting on shows, but also within the community and wider industry. If you work hard and are passionate you will gain additional gigs, sessions to perform at and also paid work.

You will be taught by tutors who have a vast amount of experience and knowledge within the industry who continue to work in the industry to keep their skills and knowledge current and relevant.

In addition to this your music theory is crucial. We put on sessions to help develop your understanding of how music works and to become more confident speaking the language. To speak this language is to be a musician and will make you more employable, plus all universities want to see at least Grade 5 music theory - therefore it’s our job to impart this knowledge to you.

Work Experience

You will gain work experience from organising and putting on events at venues and working at open mic and jam nights. You will also set up equipment and perform at half-termly showcase sessions called ‘Milestone Sessions’. You will attend guest speaker talks from musicians and producers who will put on masterclasses and workshops to help you gain more experience and knowledge.
