Are you ready to take your next steps towards a degree in in the Art and Design? Do you have a keen interest to develop your portfolio a passion for trying something new? If so, this is the right course for you. During your course, you will learn a variety of skills to help you on your journey towards University.
During your studies, you will carry out your work in our specialist art and design studios. You will have the opportunity to use the Fashion and textiles studio, 3D studio, MAC suite, photography studio, graphic design suites, digital and games departments and fine art studios that will provide you with an excellent body of work for portfolio.
You will also learn how to present your completed course work in appropriate formats and develop a digital and creative portfolio and be supported for future progression to University, Employment or an apprenticeship after your course ends.
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design - UAL Level 3 Full Time (1 Year)
Modules and Topics
Part 1: Learning skills and context:
Throughout part 1 you will experience four areas of specialism: 3D design, Textiles, Fine and Graphics design. These faced past project will enable to develop and embrace new skills along with increasing your ideas development, applying new ways of using material and methods as well as continuously reflecting and evaluating your practice.
Part 2: Pathway – Development and progression
Part 2 is where you will choose your specialist areas, these consists of two groupings VISCOMS and FAS/3D/TEXTILES.
VISCOMS covers fine art, graphics, games design, illustration, film and video, animation, photography,
FAS/3D/TEXILES covers, fashion design, costumes design, sculpture, architecture, interior design, textiles, 3D design, jewellery, product design.
In addition to working within your specialist groups and again working to very paced project briefs, you will apply for university application through UCAS and prepare your portfolios ready for interview.
Part 3 Proposal and realisation
In the later part of the course you are now required to create your own project that will run for approx. 12 weeks, this is the element of the course that is grading at level 4 and in turn is your final grade for the course.
You will be continuously assessed to establish what you have learnt from each module and assignment. This means you may be asked to pitch your ideas, present planning documents that meet professional standards for your intended productions, create productions for specific target audiences, or work with an employer to create a solution and outcome for a project.
With each project, you will be asked to produce a portfolio of evidence, which is also formally assessed by your tutors at various points throughout the year. While one to one tutorials will discuss your progress and set you new and stretching targets to ensure you are always aiming high and making good progress.
Your final grade is established through your final major project, where you will use a selection of the skills and techniques that you have learnt, practised and developed on the course, and design & create a media product of your own choosing. This project is examined by external moderators and is exhibited for your peers and tutors to assess.
Our students who choose to continue their studies at university generally choose higher education courses such as Fine Art, Visual communication, Sculpture, Architecture, interior architecture, fashion photography Graphics design, Fashion Design, Textiles in Practice, costume design, contour design, surface pattern design, fashion business and merchandising.
Previous students have secured places at universities such London College of Fashion, Westminster, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Liverpool institute of performance, Huddersfield, Leeds college of Art.

If you are aged between 16 and 18 when you start your course and are taking a course leading to a qualification, the tuition and exam fees are free. However, there may be some additional costs for optional trips, recommended text books and professional start up kits. We have a bursary scheme to assist with these costs.
