Deaf Awareness course promotes inclusivity

This year’s final cohorts have completed our Deaf Awareness course for staff and learners.

Across six weeks of sessions, attendees have learned introductory signs and communication tactics/gestures to help when working in front of house, at public events, and supporting deaf learners in general.

Amy Smith, Additional Learning Support (ALS) Communication Support Officer, has run eight courses from January to May for staff and learner groups.

She said: “I would like to thank all students and staff who have taken part throughout this academic year to learn and gain knowledge of BSL.”

“Thanks for all your dedication and hard work: it has been a pleasure teaching you all. This has been our most successful year delivering BSL and we look forward to continuing its success.”

The course will run again for staff and learners in the 2024/25 academic year.
