After studying BTEC Media Studies Level 3 at Oldham College, Hazera was able to achieve her ambition of working in media. She is now a Social Media Coordinator for High Street TV and agreed to speak to the Alumni Team about her experiences in the hope of helping others.
“I always knew what I wanted to do from a young age,” said Hazera. “Whilst the chosen job role has changed over the years, I always knew I wanted to work in media.
“Oldham College definitely helped me get where I am today. It gave me working knowledge on how to film, how to do the paperwork side of things and how to write informally and formally for articles.”
After graduating from Oldham College with her BTEC in Media Studies, Hazera progressed to higher education and gained her degree.
“The proudest moment of my career so far is probably being able to get a job straight out of university,” said Hazera, proving that her beginnings in the media industry at Oldham College were the perfect foundation to grow her career.
Now a Social Media Coordinator for High Street TV, Hazera describe what her role involves.
“I handle about twenty-five social accounts for the company, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter,” she said. “This involves creating content for the channels, handling all of the community management across all the channels and finally doing the reporting at the end of the month and tracking my sentiment everyday.
“It’s been a challenge being able to balance a 9-5 job, especially as at the beginning I was working out of hours, too,” said Hazera, but she is now well on her way to achieving her ultimate career goal.
“My ultimate career goal is now working in radio,” she said. “I want to start in social media and work my way up. In five years’ time I want to be living in London and working for a radio company.”
Finally, Hazera also had some unique networking advice to share for others hoping to find their feet in the media industry.
“Never forget a name, never forget a face,” she said. “The contacts you gain over the years may just be a person willing to offer you a job or they might know someone within the industry.”
