Earlier this term, Oldham College launched its NEW Student Voice programme.
The Student Voice at Oldham College is an exciting initiative designed to connect every aspect of college life, from leadership and curriculum to student support and personal development. It provides a platform for students to share their opinions and ideas, ensuring that their voices play a vital role in shaping the future of the College.
The Student Voice recently launched with a special event, where all students involved in the programme learned more about their responsibilities, and the exciting opportunities the Student Voice will bring.
Each course has one Student Representative who acts as the voice for their classmates. Reps collect feedback and share it with college leadership twice a year, ensuring that student concerns, suggestions, and ideas are heard.
Each faculty also has three Student Executives who work alongside college leaders and Governors. Execs take on additional responsibilities, including leading projects, organising trips, and helping to shape the direction of the College. Annually, Execs meet four times to discuss feedback, take part in two training sessions with the College’s Senior Leadership Team and Governors, and attend two conferences.
This initiative means the College benefits from direct insights into the student experience, allowing us to continuously improve programmes, facilities, and services. Students help ensure that the College is a place where their needs are understood and addressed. This collaboration leads to better outcomes for everyone, creating an inclusive learning environment.
Getting involved in the Student Voice is not only rewarding for the College but also highly beneficial for students. By participating, they’ll develop essential leadership skills, build confidence, learn how to organise activities, and represent their classmates.
They’ll also gain valuable experience that enhances their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. In addition, they’ll have the opportunity to connect with fellow students, college leaders, and Governors—relationships that could prove beneficial in the future and look impressive on their CV!
