Oldham College is delighted to be officially confirmed as the host venue for nine WorldSkills UK National Finals for the 2024 competition.
WorldSkills UK is a ‘skills Olympics’ where students and apprentices nationwide compete in profession-based contests – putting the skills they’ve been learning to the test.
We are one of nine Greater Manchester venues hosting a total of 49 competitions on November 20-21 that range from Additive Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and Industrial Robotics to Cooking, 3D Game Design and Hairdressing.
Oldham College is showcasing National Finals in: 3D Digital Game Art; Accountancy Technician; Digital Construction; Electrical Installation; Landscaping; Mechanical Engineering CAD; Plumbing, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning; and Website Development.
These will be the summit of a seven-month journey for thousands of UK students which has included regional heats and rigorous training sessions.
Jessica Criswell, Vice Principal, 16-19 and Adult Programmes, said: “It’s fantastic news that we’ve been chosen to host nine WorldSkills UK finals later this year.“
“When we hosted our first-ever finals here last November, there was a terrific buzz around campus. We held four contests then, but this time it will be an even bigger event and we’re already now making plans to welcome competitors from across the UK plus visiting dignitaries, traders, business, stakeholders and schools.
“These National Finals are a perfect opportunity to showcase Oldham College and the next generation of industry talent coming through – and we know this will be a special experience for everyone involved.“
WorldSkills UK National Finals represent the ultimate challenge and culminate with all finalists and medalists being honoured at Manchester’s prestigious Bridgewater Hall. The Foundation Skills competitions for learners with a statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or disabilities will be at Manchester College City Campus on November 22.
