We have a dedicated qualified careers team based in our Careers Hub located in Campus Central, who deliver careers information, advice and guidance to existing and prospective learners. Our careers team are here to help students achieve their career goals and to make sure they are on the correct course.

The College has been awarded the Matrix Standard which is a National Government approved Quality Standard for Careers Information, Advice and Guidance. This is a unique quality standard covering the advice and support services which help individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals. Learners also have access to an online careers portal.

Our Careers Team ensure Oldham College are compliant in embedding the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks outlined in the Government Strategy for Careers, so that all our learners are provided with the maximum level of employer encounters, support with Higher Education and apprenticeship applications.

We support students to progress after college onto Apprenticeships, employment, Further Education and Higher Education. The careers programme includes one to one guidance, employability and CV workshops, mock interviews, UCAS application support and advice on how to write personal statements.

The team organise and arrange careers events in college, to enable learners and their carers/parents to make well-informed choices aligned with the learner’s career goals. These include employer talks as well as higher education, employability and apprenticeships careers fairs.

Careers Advice Appointments

Our qualified careers team aim to raise students’ aspirations and broaden their horizons by offering free, impartial and confidential one-to-one careers guidance and career-related group workshops throughout the academic year.  The careers team and the curriculum, support students with:

  • Exploring different job ideas
  • Job hunting skills e.g. where to find jobs/apprenticeships including social media, CV and cover letters, application forms and interview skills
  • Finding the right course/s including T Level and Higher Technical qualifications to meet their career goals
  • Getting into university
  • What funding is available for further studies including Higher Education
  • Arrange visits to UCAS Events, universities and careers fairs as well as organising internal events, HE Fairs and university/employer talks and workshops
