T Level Media Content Creation and Production learners recently had the exciting opportunity to interview Marion Plant, Deputy Chair of WorldSkills UK, in our TV studio.
Marion, who is also Principal of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, visited Oldham College to see our work as a WorldSkills UK National Finals 2024 host venue.
T Level learner Charlie spoke to Marion about what the WorldSkills UK journey involves, what it means to achieve ‘skills excellence’, and what had impressed her about the WorldSkills UK National Finals at Oldham College.
Learners Chloe and Dylan also played an important role, working behind the scenes in the gallery.
“I used a combination of interview skills and prompts on our new autocue in the TV studio to carry out the interview,” says Charlie. “Working with my fellow students in gallery, who were controlling the sound and visuals, we produced a professional looking piece.
“This experience has helped me to improve my on-camera skills and has built my confidence.”
Chloe says: “I enjoyed putting my media production skills into practice – along with learning new things during the course of the interview – and it provided the feeling of a real-life work environment, contextualising skills I have gained on the T Level so far.”
Dylan says he enjoyed getting hands-on experience with the studio production equipment: “I felt like I was working on a professional production.”
Charlie, Chloe and Dylan all chose a T Level to gain some real-world industry experience alongside their learning.
While Charlie has ambitions to work for the BBC in a TV media production role, Chloe and Dylan are undecided on their specific career goals.
Chloe hopes to “gain the skills and knowledge required to point me in the right direction” as she progresses on the T Level, and Dylan says: “I know I want to work in a creative role. I think the T-Level course will help me achieve this because the work is diverse, interesting, and I have gained so much helpful knowledge already.
